Meet Our Instructors
A SHARED HUMAN EXPERIENCE
What makes our teachers different isn’t just their skill - it’s their humility, their humanity, and their deep commitment to walking the path with you, not ahead of you. We don’t pretend to have it all figured out. We fumble, we heal, we learn, and we stay connected to the work - both on and off the mat.

Áine O’Regan
Teacher
Hi, I’m Áine (pronounced awe-nya) — a Studio City native and lifelong lover of movement. I’ve been teaching yoga and fitness since 2013, and over the years I’ve come to believe one thing deeply: movement is medicine. It’s a tool we can turn to in every chapter of life — for energy, grounding, strength, stillness, or simply space to feel. My classes are about meeting you where you are. Whether you’re here to sweat, stretch, breathe, or reset, I offer a supportive space to explore what movement means for you. Expect thoughtful sequences, fun energy, and a lot of heart. I’m a 200hr E-RYT certified in Vinyasa/Power, Sculpt, Restorative, Yin, and Yoga Nidra. I’m also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, RRCA Run Coach, and trained in Myofascial Release and Women’s Physiology. I’m always learning — because our practice should grow with us. Come move with me, and let’s find the magic in movement together.

Alice Toyonaga
Co-Founder | Teacher
For over 20 years, I’ve explored what it means to live in my body - first through significant weight loss, then endurance sports, yoga, and lifting, and now through rest, presence, and deep listening. Yoga started as a workout, then stayed as a way of life: breath as medicine, community as anchor, and the healing that comes through movement, stillness and other practices that unite body, mind, and spirit. Its incredible profound impact is why I moved from Toronto to LA to co-found and open Modo Yoga LA Echo Park and Venice in 2015.
My practice and teachings are rooted in Buddhist principles, trauma-informed care, and the understanding that healing isn’t linear. It moves through sweat and fire as much as it does through quiet and surrender. In classes, I aim to weave mindful sequencing and intuitive movement with simplicity and space, breathwork, Reiki and usually a couple of terrible jokes — all in hopes of helping students reconnect to their strength, their softness, and everything in between.

Anita Vasan
Teacher
Anita Vasan understood the transformative power of breath through yoga while healing from deep-seated stress and anxiety. She found peace and found deep meaning from the simple practice of being “present” and started spending more time in silent meditation retreats. Anita invested in the exploration of breath through the yogic practices as the wisdom of these practices have changed her life. Growing up in a family of doctors, healing the mind and body was an innate part of her upbringing, and after traveling back to India to study and train as a teacher, she eventually started to share her practice with the world. One of Anita’s favorite practices is Yoga Nidra as it is where she has found deep levels of peace and freedom. Anita grew up as singer and integrates her voice and powerful chants when she guides practices.

April Imme-Sakaluk
Teacher
April’s path to yoga started purely in a physical sense. As a professional dancer, she was feeling the wear and tear of pushing her body daily so she added yoga as a new modality to maintain good health. In February 2012, she completed her 500hr Modo training with Ted Grand and Jess Robertson in Brazil.
Since then, April has immersed herself in studies and developed a deep reverence for the ancient Indian lineage of yoga and ayurveda. She believes that teachers are students, first and foremost. She has studied Vinyasa Yoga with Dina Tsouluhas, Ryan Leier, Nicki Doane, Eddie Modestini, and David Kyle; functional movement with Matt Phippen; Yin with Alan Mileham; Yoga Philosophy with Anita Vasan and Dr. Shyam Ranganthan; and Gentle Yoga for People with Brain Injuries with LoveYourBrain Foundation.

Beate Sophia
Teacher
Beate, born and raised in the Netherlands, took a vacation to sunny California in her early twenties and never left. She founded her own clothing business, raised two kids as a single mom, and discovered Yoga as a way to cope with daily stress.
Beate is a passionate yoga teacher whose teachings are steeped in the profound connection between breath and spirituality. In her classes you'll discover a harmonious blend of energy and joy, complemented by precise alignment cues that empower you to safely deepen your practice.
-

Beth Imai
Teacher
Beth Imai grew up in a small ski-resort town nestled in the mountains of Southern Idaho. Her love of music and sunny weather brought her back to her birthplace of Los Angeles in 2006, where she’s lived a colorful life in the arts of both entertainment and healing.
At a young age, dubbed a “busy child” by her parents, Beth’s reputation holds up. She considers herself to be a multi-media artist; she’s a singer / guitarist, a writer and is pretty handy with a pencil. In 2011, her drive to never stop moving led her to a yoga practice, where she quickly thrived in the physicality, but was surprised by the profound mental and emotional impact her asanas had on her life. Movement was the only thing she found to keep anxiety at bay. After years of consistent practice she decided to learn how share her experience with students.
In 2019, Beth’s live-to-learn spirit guided her down the path of the healing arts; she completed her certification to become a bodyworker, specializing in deep tissue massage therapy and myofascial release. She has a dedicated client base of whom she is proud to empower in self-healing techniques. Devouring anatomy books is more than a pastime for her; she’s now training to teach students at her beloved bodywork institute, IPSB in Santa Monica.
When she’s not teaching, you can find her sitting on a sunny patio somewhere sipping a kombucha, studying Japanese or making cardboard hotels for her cats.

Carly Cannata
Teacher
Movement has always been a part of Carly’s life. In childhood she couldn’t sit still so her parents put her dance classes at the age of 4 years old. After years of dance she found yoga to be a practice that fulfilled a yearning she had to move in a sustainable way. Little did she know it would cure her insomnia and teach her more than she ever expected. Like many, she was destined to follow the dancer to instructor pipeline and started teaching in 2018 to share not only the benefits of the movement but the benefits of the stillness. Being the daughter of a drummer, a singer, (and many years of tap dance) led Carly to embrace the rhythm that is found in yoga. The inhale and exhale create the downbeat of the music and the movement creates the dance. Carly leads classes that are rhythmic and challenging but balance both effort and ease, discomfort and presence, and strength and release. When not teaching you can find her at a national park, on a dance floor, or dreaming about a beach.
-

Caroline Lacy
Teacher
Caroline found yoga when she moved out to LA, right when she needed it most. Caroline started as an Energy Exchanger, then began working at the desk, and now gets to share this incredible practice that changed her life, with her students. In the hot room, she creates an emphasis on breath, while challenging her students but also providing modifications so that every beginner feels like they have succeeded when they leave their mat. Having had two feet injuries on separate feet, and having to rehab and relearn how to use her muscles, she believes that yoga is for EVERY BODY not just everybody. When she’s not teaching Caroline can be found eating yummy vegan food, spending time with her family and friends, or probably dancing in her kitchen/at a music festival.
-

Chance Taylor
Teacher
Chance is a musician and voice actor who found the NRY community after sustaining a running injury. What initially started as the only way to stay physically active became an addictive practice that has kept Chance on his mat ever since. He started as an Energy Exchanger and soon started working at the desk. After about a year, much encouragement and serendipity led him to complete his first Modo teacher training in 2017. Since then, Chance has continuously worked to infuse his passion for music with his teaching and practice, and has honed a confidence in his voice that led to him to take on voice acting. You may even catch him playing a live music class every now and then…

Chris Shields
Teacher
My yoga journey began in an unexpected place, a small juice store attached to the studio where I made smoothies and sold juice to the students. After some months, I made my way through the attached door to Modo Yoga on La Brea, where I started volunteering with a simple desire to find my practice. Little did I know, I would quickly find my safe haven. From there, I became a front desk staff, connecting with students daily and learning about the studio’s inner workings. I also took on the role of merchandiser, gaining insight into how yoga integrates with lifestyle. These experiences paved the way for my transition to becoming a yoga teacher. Today, I’m passionate about sharing yoga’s power of transformation, focusing on inclusivity, mindful movement, and creating a supportive space for all. I’m deeply committed to guiding students on their wellness journeys and remain actively involved in the studio’s community. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
-

Christine Clayton
Teacher
Christine blends thoughtful sequencing with mindfulness to create a calm yet empowering experience. Her teaching encourages balance, presence, and a deeper awareness of self.
-

Dalton Grant
Teacher
In 2008 I started practicing Nichiren Buddhism and received Gohonzon the same year. I think Buddhism, particularly the school of Zen, is an unequaled complement to yoga. Bringing presence to the moment and presence to the body. Around this same time I began practicing yoga pretty regularly. In 2012, I completed my first 500 hour teacher training with Modo Yoga in Montreal and a few months later I completed the Modo Flow Training in Kelowna, BC. I then went on to devour workshops whenever I could. I’ve had the privilege to train with some really great ones – Noah Mazé, Joe Barnett, Ray Long, Jules Mitchell, Jay Fields and Ted Grand, to name a few. In my classes you’ll find the incorporation of presence to the moment, meticulous anatomical cuing and rad music to connect you more fully to mind, body and your experience in the moment.
-

Diana Seva
Teacher
Diana is all about this yoga stuff. She's had the privilege of teaching yoga since 2016, and has been practicing since 2012. She used to navigate the world from the chin up, until the practice of yoga brought her back home into her body. There's something ancient and magical about sharing communal space and moving our bodies through shapes that have been practiced for over 5,000 years. Once you repeat and revisit the same shapes again and again...once you learn how to breathe down into your diaphragm...once you soften into your tension and choose to release it...something transformative happens. Diana designs yoga classes that encourage students to breathe deeply, cultivate inner awareness, and clear stuck energy. Outside of yoga, she is a relational psychotherapist-in-training and clinical hypnosis practitioner. She loves making playlists, watching Miyazaki films, and retreating into nature.
-

Diane Jackson
Teacher
Diane is well into her second decade of teaching yoga professionally – her niche has been working with professional athletes, NHL and NFL inclusive, to prevent injury and promote longevity. Diane’s impressive resume is littered with consistent study under some of the world’s greatest teachers: Judith Lasater, Seane Corn, Ted Grand, Jessica Robertson, John Friend, Sianna Sherman, Bernie Clarke and Michael Stone.
A lifelong athlete, Diane was brought to her first hot yoga class in order to rehabilitate a knee injury. It only took one class for her to realize the multiplicity of benefits to the mind, body and spirit provided by the practice of Asana. As a certified personal trainer, Diane advocates the complimentary effects of a regular yoga practice to athletes from all disciplines.
Diane’s ‘yogic path’ was not quite a straight one… she holds degrees in International politics, Business, philosophy & religious studies.

Emily Morwen
Co-Founder | Teacher
Emily, a Toronto native, was first introduced to yoga in 2000 in New York City where she was studying theater and the art of becoming an anxiety-ridden insomniac! At the time, the thought of yoga meant “slowing down”, which was terrifying and seemed better suited for “hippies” and “tea people”, not she! But after accidentally stumbling into her first class, she was shocked to discover that this “slowing down” was not only the most challenging sweaty workout she’d ever had, but for the first time in ages, she felt a deep sense of peace. Excited and inspired to learn more, she began her study and practice of yoga. Emily has been teaching yoga for 10 years and has completed over 2000 hours of trainings, yet will always consider herself a student. In addition to teaching group classes, Emily has also taught many one on one yoga session to students ranging from 3 to 83 years old! She is the creator of Yoga Theater for Kids (which she taught in schools, & foster youth programs throughout LA).
-

Emily Silver
Teacher
Emily is an artist and professor with over 20 years of yoga practice. She joined the community in 2013 as a student, later became part of the EE program, and began teaching in 2017 with 800+hrs of yoga training. After several years in the high desert—where she owned a yoga studio, gallery, and recording studio—she’s happy to be back in Los Angeles and at NRY.
Emily’s classes are inclusive, challenging, and rooted in curiosity and play. She sees yoga as a lifelong practice—a space of ongoing discovery, not perfection, where we return again and again to connect more deeply with ourselves.

Florence Culpepper
Teacher
I started my yoga journey over 20 years ago in my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. I’m a self described yoga nerd and I love to study different yoga lineages with a variety of teachers. You will find me in a yoga class almost every day of the week unless my body is telling me I need to rest.
In my classes you can expect a welcoming atmosphere of supportive challenge, mindful sequences, affirmation, and chill beats.

Ivorie Jenkins

Ivorie has dedicated herself to the practice, study and teaching of Yoga since it revealed its healing benefits during her professional dance career. After receiving a B.A. in Communication Studies from Northwestern University, Ivorie embarked on a 15 year performance career. She toured nationally and internationally, danced roles in film, television and commercial ad campaigns and 1,500 shows with Cirque du Soleil.
There is a soul and a depth that Ivorie brings to her classes. Her attention to alignment and thoughtful sequencing will guide you safely while still challenging you to move beyond your perceived boundaries. What she loves most about teaching is reminding students of their wholeness, their innate perfection and inner wisdom so they might become comfortable with befriending who they already are.
-

Jodi Christopher
Teacher
Jodi found Modo Yoga on La Brea in 2016 and from day one it felt like home. Practicing nearly daily since then, the La Brea studio walls have held for her joy, tears, love, loss, deep friendships, chosen family, growth, expansion, and the peaceful feeling of simply being. Jodi never thought she would be a yoga teacher but cut to 2023 and she found herself in Nicaragua completing her 200 hour teacher training. Her own teachers have gifted her a foundation and a framework to quiet her mind, live deliberately and to be her authentic self. They did then and continue to now, inspire her enough-ness, and a slow and steady, playful way of living. Always a student first, Jodi hopes to give back to the community and to hold space for a landing, where others can be curious about stillness in movement and the power of breath… a nestling into oneself.
-

Joi Pierre
Teacher
Joi stepped off a plane at LAX with a dream and her Texas boots, ready to pursue a graduate program in Film at Loyola Marymount University. Through a friend's invitation, she found sanctuary at NRY as an Energy Exchanger. Yoga has always been her foundation for grounding herself and supporting her wellness journey.
What she didn't expect was for the studio to become her second home, where she would grow her roots by working at the front desk and eventually becoming a teacher. Joi believes yoga is more than just a personal practice—it's a form of social justice that brings people together to breathe as one community.
With her inclusive approach, Joi creates a welcoming space for yogis of all body types and backgrounds. She brings her authentic self to each class, combining her upbeat positive southern charm with mindful movement to create an experience that nurtures body, soul, and spirit.
-

Jonathan Slavin
Teacher
As a queer person who grew up in the 1980s, Jonathan’s early experiences of anything athletic were profoundly negative. The school gym was, at best unwelcoming and, at worst, dangerous. When Jonathan discovered yoga in their early twenties, it was a life changing experience. Here was a physical practice that truly felt accessible, and was instrumental in reconnecting Jonathan with their body. Thirty-some odd years later, Jonathan is truly humbled to find themself in the position of teacher, and their only desire is to make certain that everyone knows they are welcome in this class. Come take up the space you’re entitled to!

-

Rachael Becker
Teacher
I teach yoga as a celebration of life! In the spirit of connection, intimacy, and empowerment I am in service to this incredible tradition. In the 20+ years I’ve known yoga, the nature of my practice has shifted from a focus exclusively on the physical to that of a deep study into the nature of Self. My yoga has overflowed from the mat into a lens in which I inhabit the world; one of curiosity, presence, and service. In the stillness of the asanas I unite with the intelligence of my body, the peace within my heart, and the smile of my soul.
-

Raisa Lilling
Teacher
Raisa has been teaching yoga and fitness since 2005 but has been practicing movement her entire life, including ballet, hiking, running, bodybuilding, Tae Kwon Do and boxing. She first experienced yoga in 1992 through the Jivamukti Yoga Center in NYC when she was looking to balance out boxing and weight training…the boxing stopped but her fitness and yoga journeys have continued. She initially signed up for a YogaWorks teacher training and apprenticeship program in 2005 with Annie Carpenter and Lisa Wolford to deepen her own practice but discovered a new love of sharing yoga and movement with others. A NASM-CPT, she works with private clients in addition to her primary focus teaching Vinyasa Flow, Yoga Foundations and Yoga Sculpt classes. You can find her on the NRY schedule, encouraging students to follow their breath, find healthy alignment to ensure long term mobility and health, and to have fun exploring new ways to move!
-

Remi Chiovaro
Teacher
Movement became an integral part of Remi's life when she was introduced to gymnastics at only 2 years old. Although she chose not to continue on professionally, she had incorporated finding different ways to move throughout her teens and adult years. From that, a natural curiosity and passion for holistic health and wellness was born, and how a combination of the two have significant benefits towards her mental and physical health.
Throughout years of hustling within the corporate structure in New York City and masking the fear of feeling lost, Remi found her love for Yoga. Yoga embodied the familiar movement she was comforted by growing up, except providing healing components instead of competition. She then decided to take major leaps towards her grown curiosity and passion. In 2022 she moved to Los Angeles and shortly after began to pursue her love for teaching, hoping to inspire others to form a deep understanding of their bodies and minds to follow their dreams.
-

Roberto Guevara
Teacher
Expression, community, and connection have always steered Roberto forward, informing his passions and aspirations. It's no surprise then that these pillars coupled with a "yes, and" attitude led him to a transformative heated yoga sculpt training. The joy of creating spaces dedicated to breath, movement, and an awareness of one's mind and body turned into fuel that would eventually encourage Roberto to add reformer and mat Pilates to his teaching repertoire. Today: Roberto is a writer, ASL interpreter, Sarah McLachlan enthusiast, and group fitness instructor.

She has loved movement her whole life having studied Movement Theatre at the University of Minnesota, Dance at Zenon Dance School, Muy Thai Kickboxing and Yoga around the world. She has competed over 400 hrs of yoga teacher training with the most recent being with Modo in Vancouver. It's ironic that she became a yoga teacher because the first 5 times she tried Yoga she didn't like it. Only on the 6th try did she realize the importance of a good teacher.
She thinks of yoga as noun, a state anyone can achieve, with movement, breath, or a myriad of other ways. After being tricked into taking a hot yoga class in 2012 she has been hooked on the hot room ever since and is excited to be on the other side of the mat guiding practices.

In 2015, Yvonne's life took an unexpected turn when she sustained an ACL injury during a Krav Maga self-defense class. What initially began as a physical therapy solution soon evolved into a profound and transformative yoga practice. Yoga became her sanctuary, offering not just physical recovery but a profound sense of emotional and mental clarity. It was this newfound peace that inspired Yvonne to share the magic of yoga with others. In 2021, during the peak of the pandemic, she took the plunge and deepened her practice by completing Modo Yoga International’s online 200-hour teacher training. In the hot room, Yvonne will guide you through a practice that’s both soothing and invigorating, pushing your limits while grounding your mind.

Zoë Mey
Teacher
Zoë’s yoga journey began with resistance—her early practices often unsettled by restlessness and a busy mind. Everything shifted when she discovered Modo Yoga, first in New York City and later Los Angeles, where the warmth, supportive teachers, and sacred space helped her truly arrive. Following a curiosity planted by a teacher’s soft suggestion, she completed Modo’s teacher training in Nicaragua through the Be Accessible scholarship in 2023, and began her practice as a teacher.
Zoë is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology at Meridian University, where her studies live at the intersection of psyche and soma, presence and repair, and the in-between thresholds where healing and transformation take root. Her teaching is an invitation to return—to breath, to movement, to stillness, and to the sacred within and around us. She hopes her classes offer a space where the body can speak, the heart can soften, unfolding the path home to the Self.
